Answers
Partner visas: common questions
What does ‘genuine and continuing relationship’ mean?
Home Affairs assesses factors such as financial aspects, nature of the household, social aspects and commitment. Requirements are set out in migration law and policy — see https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/ for current partner visa information.
Can we apply while we live apart temporarily?
Temporary separation does not automatically prevent a partner visa, but the department will look at the overall relationship. We can discuss how to document your circumstances honestly.
